Egypt has sentenced 75 people to death and they are to be hanged, Reuters reports.

Those sentenced were found guilty for causing deaths following the 2013 protest in support of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The August 2013 disturbances took place a month after the democratically-elected Mr Morsi was ousted.

Hundreds of demonstrators and dozens of security personnel were killed after state troops moved in to break up two sit-in protests.

Reuters reports that judicial sources said on Saturday that those to be hanged include prominent Islamist leaders.

The source mentioned senior Brotherhood leaders Essam al-Erian and Mohamed Beltagi and prominent Islamist preacher Safwat Higazi as among those sentenced to death.

The Muslim Brotherhood group has been declared by Egypt as a “terrorist organisation”. Supporters of the group face prosecution.
