The president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma has once again survived another no confidence vote in the country’s parliament.
126 MPs voted for Mr. Zuma’s removal from office, while 214 voted against the motion asking that the president remains in office.
The opposition leader Mmusi Maimane had defended the motion to vote Mr. Zuma out of office following the a report by an anti-corruption watchdog which found “significant wrongdoing, improper influence, conflicts of interest and outright corruption, “all pointing directly to President Zuma and his cronies”.
Voting by the lawmakers was proceeded by a heated debate on the motion.
Mr Maimane’s Democratic Alliance (DA) earlier this year was again unsuccessful in getting enough votes in parliament to get Mr Zuma out of office.
During that session, MPs from the governing African National Congress (ANC) voted against the motion as they did on Thursday.
Mr Zuma has denied all allegations of corruption leveled against him.
