Cape Town explosion kills one, several injured

An explosion at a distribution warehouse belonging to Shoprite has killed one persons and left several people injured.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in the Cape Town town of Stikland, according to officials who said it may have been caused by an electrical fault.

Fire fighters were able to evacuate people and brought the fire under control although some persons still sustained injuries.

News24 reported that three people, including one person who was seriously injured, had been taken to hospital.

The city’s Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Theo Layne was quoted by local media to have said that “As a result of the fire, one adult male had sustained fatal burn wounds. “The cause of the fire has not been determined yet”.
