A commuter train in South Africa’s Cape Town suffered an arson attack on Wednesday leading to the death of one person and four other sustaining injuries.

News24 reported that the body of the deceased was badly burnt making it difficult for identification.

Cape Town’s fire services spokesperson, Theo Layne was quoted by News24 to have said that the train driver was not injured.

“She thought she heard something being thrown at the train,” Layne said referring to the account of the train driver.

Police officials based on the driver’s account are treating the incident as “suspected incendiarism” which refers to deliberate starting fire for malicious purpose.
