China pledges stronger economic ties with Africa

China’s President Xi Jinping has pledged stronger economic ties between his country and Africa.

Jinping who paid a visit to Senegal on Saturday said strengthening economic ties with Africa is key for China.

China already does business with many African countries including providing loan facilities for infrastructure projects.

China now does more trade with Africa than any other nation does, something that doesn’t excite the United States which has asked Africa to be cautious of China.

Jinping says “Every time I come to Africa, I have seen the dynamism of the continent and the aspirations of its people for development,” Xi said. “I am very confident in the future of Sino-African relations.”

The Chinese President is in Africa for a summit of BRICS countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

He is visiting Senegal for a two-day visit to sign bilateral deals. He is due to also visit Rwanda and South Africa for the BRICS summit.

China says it invested $100 million in Senegal in 2017.

In other parts of Africa, China lends money in exchange for concessions in the mining sector.

China is currently lending $20 billion to the government of Guinea in exchange for aluminium ore concessions.
