A bid launched to seek support to initiate an impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump has failed to get needed support in the US House of Representatives.

The bid was launched by Texas Democrat lawmaker, Al Green.

He filed the resolution shortly after the House had voted to denounce Mr Trump’s racial attacks on four US congresswomen.

The house did vote to consider Mr. Trump’s actions as racist although many Republicans did not vote in favour.

But on the bid for an impeachment proceeding, there was not enough support, with many Democrats voting overwhelmingly against it.

The Democratic leadership has refused to initiate impeachment proceedings against Mr. Trump.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has said she does not want to act until enough case been built against him.

“We have six committees that are working on following the facts in terms of any abuse of power, obstruction of justice and the rest that the president may have engaged in. That is the serious path that we are on,” Ms Pelosi told reporters on Wednesday.

Trump reacts

Mr. Trump had reacted to the vote saying “This should never be allowed to happen to another President of the United States again!”

Later, at a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday Mr Trump launched further attacks on the four non-white Democrat congresswomen – Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib, known as “the squad”.

Many chanting “Send her Back! Send her back!” as he attacked Ilhan Omar who is originally from Somalia.

Omar however tweeted with a poem from Maya Angelou.
