Top 10 African countries with high Covid-19 recoveries

Africa is recording significant numbers when it comes to recoveries with tally now hitting at least 29,453 out of over 78,194 infections.

Countries on the continent are using various forms of treatment methods with deaths now at 2,630 as at May 16, 2020.

Ten out of the 54 countries have however recorded appreciable number of recoveries with hopes high that adopting vigorous treatment measures could save more lives.

Out of the ten countries, eight have recorded over 1,000 recoveries with only two of those ten countries recording below 1,000 recoveries.

Here are the top ten countries according to number of recoveries.

  1. South Africa – 13,524 cases, 6,083 recoveries, 247 deaths
  2. Algeria – 6,821 cases, 3,409 recoveries, 542 deaths
  3. Morocco – 6,741 cases, 3,487 recoveries, 192 deaths
  4. Egypt – 11,228 cases, 3,363 recoveries, 592 deaths
  5. Ghana – 5,735 cases, 1,754 recoveries, 28 deaths
  6. Cameroon – 3,105 cases, 1,567 recoveries, 140 deaths
  7. Nigeria – 5,450 cases, 1,320 recoveries, 171 deaths
  8. Guinea – 2,531 cases, 1,094 recoveries, 15 deaths
  9. Ivory Coast – 2,017 cases, 942 recoveries, 24 deaths
  10. Djibouti – 1,309 cases, 935 recoveries, 4 deaths

Meanwhile many African countries appear prepared to live with the virus as they intend easing further restrictions in the coming weeks.

The World Health Organization has also warned that the coronavirus may become endemic within communities just like HIV/AIDS and other ailments.

The WHO also says Africa could face as many as 250 million possible COVID19 infections & 190,000 deaths if containment measures fail & the virus spreads uncontrollably.

Countries must proactively expand capacity to test, trace, isolate & treat to stop the chain of transmission, the WHO said.
