Ghana’s President Nana Akufo Addo on Saturday was picked by his ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to contest this year’s presidential election.
It will be a repeat of the 2016 presidential election which he won running against then incumbent President John Mahama.
Last year John Mahama also won his party’s presidential election to run once more for the presidency in December.
Akufo-Addo will contest this year’s election with his Vice Mahamudu Bawumia as his running mate, according to his party.

John Mahama and Akufo Addo have run against each other twice with each of them winning once.
Mahama, 61, defeated Akufo-Addo in the 2012 presidential race but lost to him in the 2016 election.
Both politicians were colleague lawmakers before deciding to contest the presidency.
Ghana will from next week begin a new voter registration exercise ahead of the December presidential election.
