Ghana’s former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has been declared a wanted person for the second time this year by the country’s special prosecutor.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Monday made another formal declaration of the former minister being a fugitive for several corruption cases he alleged to have played key roles in.
In February this year a similar declaration was made against Mr. Ofori-Atta but was relaxed after his lawyers made a case for him to be allowed to undergo a medical procedure.
His name was then removed from the wanted list on February 18, 2025, so he can voluntarily return and make appearance before the state prosecutors by June 2, 2025.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng told journalists in Accra that the former minister has failed to honor several invitations for him to make himself available for questioning.
Some of those cases relate to the controversial National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), and two other cases.
The Special Prosecutor said Mr. Ofori-Atta must return to Ghana immediately to face questioning.
Ofori-Atta is reported to have left Ghana for medical treatment, but Agyebeng insisted that the former minister must cooperate with the ongoing probes.
His lawyers request that the ex-finance minister be made to participate in a virtual interview to provide his cautionary statement, has been rejected by the special prosecutor.
The office insists the ex-finance minister makes a physical appearance to assist with investigations.
