Ghanaian officials have confirmed new cases of coronavirus bringing the country’s total number of cases to sixteen.

The worrying signal in Ghana now is that some of its latest cases are local transmission.

That means some of the patients did not have a history of traveling or coming into contact with a previous patient.

But majority of the cases are imported though.

The country has already banned public gatherings, closed schools and restricted religious services.

Travel bans have also been imposed on visitors but the major challenge now for Ghana like other African countries is having proper infrastructure in place to fight the outbreak should things get worst.

Meanwhile the World Health Organization has said that so far at least 633 cases have been confirmed “in Africa in 33 countries and 17 deaths.”

It said it is “supporting countries with surveillance, diagnostics & treatment.”
