Ghanaian lawmaker shot dead after campaigning

A lawmaker in Ghana has been shot dead by persons suspected to be armed robbers in the central part of the country.

Ekow Quansah Hayford who is the Member of Parliament for Mfantsiman was shot dead on Friday morning after campaigning in his constituency.

He was campaigning for re-election in the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections scheduled for December 7.

Eyewitnesses say the MP was driving back to his community when highway robbers blocked a road to rob motorists.

While the robbery was ongoing, Mr. Hayford identified himself as a lawmaker.

This allegedly infuriated the robbers who blamed him end other politicians for the problems facing citizens in the country.

The 49 year old MP entered parliament in 2016 and was hopeful of retaining the seat in the December election.
