A 51-year old trader’s quest to further her education in Ghana means she had to sit same basic school exam alongside her own child.

Comfort Nutsugah is reported by Ghana’s News Agency to have taken advantage of government’s Free Senior High School Policy to further her education.

The mother of six sells used clothing after school hours and has now gained entry into technical school in Ghana’s Volta region.

The first-year General Arts Student of the Keta Senior High Technical School told the Ghana News Agency that she went back to school because of her desire to acquire knowledge.

“I remember I sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with my fifth born and had it not been for the Free SHS, I wouldn’t have continued my education to this level,” she said.

Her current classmates, according to her are as young as her children. But Nutsugah is enjoying the class and is happy to be back in school.

In many African countries, many elderly persons refuse to go back to school due to fear of being ridiculed.
