There is outrage over the decision of a Russian company to pay female workers for wearing skirts and makeup.

The aluminium producer has offered to pay bonuses to women who come to work wearing skirts and makeup.

The move has been described by the company as a month-long “femininity marathon”.

The company said it is willing to pay women an extra 100 rubles ($1.50) a day should they meet the condition which includes wearing their hair up.

The policy has been advertised and will be active until the end of June.

Female employees have been asked to send in photos of themselves to receive the bonus.

An official from the company’s communications department, Anastasia Kirillova has said that it was a “great way to rally a team” that was 70 per cent male.

“We hope the initiative will increase awareness of our women, allowing them to feel their femininity and charm when they opt for a skirt or a dress,” she told local media.

But not many are enthused by the move from this company.

On social media many ridiculed the initiative, with some referring to it as an act from “the dark ages”.

There are others who however support such a policy believing it will “brightened up” the workplace.

One person wrote on Twitter that “A 100-rouble bonus for women who will come in short skirts to. Brighten up the day of a male-dominated team. Indeed why do we need feminism when we can just please men for money?”
